Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies

An Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degree in General Studies is available statewide, with all six South Dakota state universities collaboratively offering the program.

Why consider an Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies?

An A.A. Degree is known as a transfer degree and will easily feed into a four-year program.

An A.A. Degree in General Studies is a good starting point if you are uncertain about a major, but are interested in working on a college degree.

An A.A. Degree allows you to complete a degree while taking coursework that will count toward a bachelor's degree.

What steps should I take to become a degree seeking student in the A.A. in General Studies program?

Decide if you want to earn your A.A. Degree in General Studies from South Dakota State University, The University of South Dakota, Dakota State University, Northern State University, Black Hills State University, or South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

1.  Apply as a degree seeking student to the university from which you want to earn your degree. If you have not previously attended a South Dakota public university, you will need to send a $20 check with the admissions application.

2.  Meet with a university advisor to review program requirements.

3.  Register for classes. You can take classes on campus from any of the public universities, at University Center in Sioux Falls, with the EUC (Electronic University Consortium), by distance education, or by using a combination of these venues.
